Between October 1910 and December 1913, Charles Chaplin made five major tours, throughout North America, with the Fred Karno Company of English Comedians. None of those dates have been recorded. Not, that is, until along came: CHAPLIN - Stage by Stage
Front Row: Stan Jefferson, Albert Austin, Mike Asher, Charles Chaplin, Fred Karno Jnr.
In the book, you will find Dates Sheets for those tours, in which are
listed in detail EVERY KNOWN appearance that Chaplin made whilst in the Karno
Company. However, despite years of searching, by the Author, "A.J" Marriot,
and a dedicated team of volunteers, along with a fair sprinkling of Librarians,
the records are still not complete. This is where you may come in.
On the following pages are listed, in alphabetical order, the Towns/Cities
visited, with all the known appearances, plus hints and suggested dates for
when other appearances may have occured. If you live in one of the locations,
and could check your local library newspaper records, the listing could be
vastly improved. The information would then be transferred to the second
edition of the book, wherein you would receive full credit for your contribution.
The newly published records of Chaplin's movements within the U.S. and Canada
provide very important and valuable historical information but, with your
help, could become definitive. Please check out the locations listed below.
CAN YOU HELP?
Despite 6 years of extensive research, I was unable
to complete or confirm
all of Charlie Chaplin's appearances with the Fred Karno Company.
Click on the links of any of the towns or cities which are UNDERLINED,
if you may be able to help.
